My garden is too cold and wet for unguicularis, but lazicus has opened for me today so I'm afraid I have to put it above the gr4eat man's pet

Charlotte exterminator

I understand this choice, this plant is just wonderful, a miracle and a pure beauty!

Graham Rice

Well, Kathryn - it could be you and Mr B agree after all. Over the years, some botanists have thought that the two plants were so similar that I. lazica was classified as a variety of I. unguicularis! For gardeners, it's the ability of I. lazica to take wetter and shadier conditions which makes it so valuable.

Planters

That's a really interesting (and difficult) question! I'm very fond of tulips, so am tempted to choose those, but then they don't have a very long flowering period :/ Hmm, have to have a think!

A beauty...
There's a native, the zig-zag iris (Iris brevicaulis), yall could probably grow, that closely resembles the flower posted... at least the ones around here do...

Those African iris with the continuous bloom have a lot to teach our native varieties...

Wonder who's working on that cross?
